Published: December 19, 2007

SUN CITY CENTER - It's been a productive two years for Mike Anderson, but at the end of December he'll step down from the top job at the Sun City Center Emergency Squad.

Christine Patrick will take over as chief Jan. 1. Anderson is leaving the position because of term limits.

Patrick brings an abundance of experience to the job. She is a retired Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputy and is an emergency medical technician. In her eight years with the squad she has also served as a team captain and the director of education.

"She has worked in all facets of the job. She really brings a wealth of experience to the squad," Anderson said.

The position serves as the chief operating officer and chief administrative officer. The person leads the squad, which has 450 members.

"It's a business in all aspects except there is no payroll department and no billing department," Anderson said.

Patrick is a resident of Kings Point and will have some big footsteps to follow. While Anderson was chief, the renovations to the squad's main building and training center were completed. Also, global positioning system devices were added to the emergency vehicles. The squad's offices were updated with computers and electronics.

"Chief Anderson has been able to carry out some major improvements in his tenure," said Dick Morrison, deputy chief.

As for Patrick, Morrison said he trusts her abilities.

"Oh, she's got leadership skills and experience with the squad. I feel good about her taking over," Morrison said.

As for Anderson's plans, he will take a much-needed vacation. He and his wife will take a 16-day South American cruise in January. He will return to the squad as a member of Team 4.

Anderson said he's ready for less responsibility and to become active in other capacities throughout Sun City Center. He will join several committees in Kings Point and also will spend a lot of time as a volunteer and committee member for the 2009 Super Bowl, which will be played in Tampa. Patrick also has asked Anderson to do some teaching at the squad.

"I am excited about some extended time off and the new position," Anderson said. "I have the greatest confidence in Christine."
