APOLLO BEACH - The Apollo Beach Chamber of Commerce and Winn-Dixie of Apollo Beach recently partnered to sponsor the community's 17th annual Christmas Lighting Contest.

The competition was limited to entries within the 33572 ZIP code.

A group of four judges representing the chamber drove around Dec. 10 to select the winners.

In the residential category, winners received a yard sign, certificate, newspaper announcement and Winn-Dixie gift card.

Richard Nestri Sr., 6616 Seabird Way, took first place and won a $50 gift card for his efforts. Nestri had placed second and third in previous contests. John and Carla Hedler, 6513 Seabird Way, won second place and David and Pat Brown, 640 Flamingo Drive, came in third. The second- and third-place finishers received $25 gift cards.

Ellsberry Court Apartments, 349 Apollo Beach Blvd, won the apartment/condominium category and Circles at Lands End restaurant, 1212 Apollo Beach Blvd., won the commercial category. The Estates at Harbour Isles, 203 Royal Bonnet Drive, took second.

Winners received a yard/business sign, award certificate, newspaper announcement and a free ad in the chamber newsletter.

"We had 20 entrants this year, but we'd like to see even more," said Joanne Gadek, the chamber's executive director. "We have so many lovely homes throughout the Apollo Beach area, and all the owners need to do is fill out a form to participate. They're available every year at the chamber or in the paper."
