SUN CITY CENTER - When the University of Wisconsin Badgers enter Raymond James Stadium for their fourth Outback Bowl in Tampa on Tuesday, Sarah and Rachel Elbing, granddaughters of Sun City Center residents Fred and Jeanette Kroog, will march in, too.
Rachel, a senior at UW, is the marching band's drum major, and sister Sarah, a sophomore, plays tuba.
The girls' parents, Rebecca and Paul Elbing of Amery, Wis., will accompany Rebecca's folks, the Kroogs, to the game.
As part of the scheduled Outback Bowl activities, the band will compete against the University of Tennessee's Pride of the Southland from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Outback Bowl Beach Day at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort, 400 Mandalay Ave., Clearwater Beach. The free event is open to the public and will include a tug-of-war, sky divers and a trivia contest.
At 5:30 p.m. Monday, the two bands will perform in the TECO Energy Parade and Band Blast along Seventh Avenue in Ybor City.
The UW band includes about 300 members under the direction of Michael Leckrone. It "is known nationally as one of the most entertaining college bands in the country," Fred Kroog said.
