Wolfe, Mead Reach Perfection Again

Published: November 14, 2007

Deb Wolfe has two bowling plaques proudly displayed. One highlights her entrance into the Tampa Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame (2002). The other reads acceptance into the Florida State Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame (2003)

Every once in a while, Steve Mead will amble past his proudest bowling moment - an American Bowling Congress Eagle adorning one of his walls - and his memory will flick back to 2000 when he was a member of the Ebonite Eight-Ball team that captured top honors in the ABC team event in Albuquerque.

Now both bowlers are presenting their skills in the Pin Chasers Midtown Thursday night Pepsi Scratch League and that talent has come across with perfection.

Wolfe, on Lanes 23-24, commenced it, tossing in 12 straight "perfectos" in her opening game for her eighth lifetime 300.

Mead, on Lanes 21-22, waited until game No. 3, when a dramatic move left on the approach in a 227 second game proved profitable. It marked his 23{+r}{+d} lifetime perfect game, but his first since moving from Oregon two years ago.

"I took the summer off from bowling," said Wolfe, "because of a shoulder injury. I am managing to throw 12 good shots every week, but not in the same game. This time I did."

Mead, who has bowled in California, Nevada and Oregon and was averaging 200 at age 15, went 221-227-300 - 748, but had to move far left in the second game when the lanes began to break down . Eleven of the strikes were dead in the 1-3 pocket, with the seventh frame strike traveling to the Brooklyn (1-2) side.

Mead's ABC winning team posted 3,531 (235.3 average) and remains the second highest team total in ABC-USBC tournament history.

Also at Pin Chasers Midtown in the Sardegna's Pro Shop Industrial League, Sammy Facciponte rolled 299, Phil Frey 279-710, Mark Frey 280-700 and Jeff Shats 279-700.

OAKFIELD LANES: Bob Hernandez had high game of 289, while Quinn Seghi posted high series with 279-773 for the men. Sandra Raybuck's 249 and Margie Wilkerson's 604 led the women.
