Trick Or Treat Street Attracted Cast Of Characters

RIVERVIEW - More than 5,000 trick-or-treaters attended Trick or Treat Street at Riverview High on Oct. 27.

The event was sponsored by the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and the school.

Kitty Cunningham, former chamber executive director, and Walt Vickers, chamber board member and owner of St. Law Pest Control, broke the ribbon at 4 p.m. to officially start the event.

More than 300 children participated in costume contests in four age categories. Thirty-five decorated booths and vehicles introduced businesses and services to the community. Winners of prizes were Foster Angels of Hillsborough County for scariest; Tbay Tutoring for most kid friendly; Huntington Learning Center for best use of materials; Sweetbay Supermarket for best technical; Girl Scouts for best artwork; and the sheriff's office for most original.

Overall winners were: the U.S. Postal Service, first place; Christ the King Lutheran Church, second place; and South Bay Hospital, third place.

Riverview Students Head To Carnegie Hall
RIVERVIEW - Ten students from Riverview High School's Chamber Chorus will perform the Christmas part of G.F. Handel's "Messiah" at Carnegie Hall in New York City at 2 p.m. Nov. 25.

They will be directed by John Rutter, a world-renowned British choral conductor and composer.

The high school singers who will participate are Caleb Bone, Vicky Cirello, Anjelica Corbett, Jennifer Gunter, Angela Haider, Christopher Jones, Lorena Lopez, Emily Prause, Caitlin Willard and John Williams.

South Shore Arts Council Schedules Busy Season

RUSKIN - The South Shore Arts Council has planned several artistic events for the year for which they invite community participation. The council also is seeking new volunteers and board members.

The South Shore Plein Air Festival will expand into a weekend, March 27-30, at many local venues. For information or to offer to help with the festival, call committee chairwoman Anne Madden, (813) 645-3732.

Local artists will be able to exhibit and sell their art at the Tomato Festival the first weekend of May. On May 2, the Ruskin Street Festival will celebrate South Shore culture through street art. To participate or assist, call Sandy Council, (813) 645-7710.

"Wild about Art is our regional invitational visual arts show featuring wildlife and natural themes," Madden said. The show will take place July 27 at the Resort & Club at Little Harbor. To be considered for the show or to help, call Madden, (813) 645-3732.

Retired Nurse Named Artist Of The Month

SUN CITY CENTER - The Sun City Center Art Club Artist of the Month for November is Jeanne Danek, a registered nurse from Gaithersburg, Md.

She joined the club upon her retirement to Sun City Center.

Danek's participation in the club's classes and workshops has introduced her "to the exciting world of acrylic and mixed media," said Ed Laudano, publicity chair, "although watercolor remains her favorite medium."

Her works will be exhibited throughout the month at the Sun City Center Library, Sun City Center Chamber of Commerce, Sun City Center Golf and Racquet Club, Sun City Center Visitor's Center, Art Room Showcase, Art Gallery and A.G. Edwards and Sons.
