RUSKIN - Although there are still a few weeks left until the end of the season, the Lennard Longhorns girls' volleyball team has exceeded expectations.
'Our main goal was to get better as a team and improve on last year,' said Morgan Miltner, Lennard's head volleyball coach. 'Last year, we didn't win any games.'
This season, the Longhorns are 3-5 and, according to their coach, improving with every match they play.
Standouts include seniors Maritza Martinez and Judith Villegas, who also are team captains.
The team took a field trip Oct. 2 to Tampa to watch a match between the University of Tampa and Saint Leo University.
'We're hoping to finish the year strong and continue to build our program,' Miltner said.
Lennard's final two matches of the regular season will be at home - against Berkley Preparatory School today and versus East Bay High School on Tuesday.
