Published: October 10, 2007

SUN CITY CENTER - The Sun City Center Art Club presents Dolores Phelps as its October Artist of the Month.

Sixteen of her miniature paintings will be on display through the month in the Art Gallery Showcase in front of the Art Gallery, 954 Cherry Hills Drive.

'If people don't know where that is,' said Ed Laudano, club publicity chairman, 'the visitors' center can direct them.'

Phelps joined the club after moving to Sun City Center from Michigan in 1995.

'She enjoys working in all media,' Laudano said, 'although she prefers watercolors, creating vividly colorful artworks.'

New Program Replaces 'Issues And Ideas'
SUN CITY CENTER - Manuel Escudero, the performer who, figuratively, closed the door and turned out the lights on the final, 691st program of 'Phil Lange's Issues and Ideas,' became the first performer for the inaugural 'People, Places and Things' program Sept. 10.

Residents are invited to and are being featured in the free gatherings at 1:30 p.m. Mondays in the dining room at the Sun Towers Retirement Community, 101 Trinity Lakes Drive.

The main thrust of the gathering will be focusing 'on the resources that we have in our retirement community - the depth of personal history from around the world, and how the spirit of fellowship and the commitment to volunteering maintains our lively community,' Lange said.

'Many citizens in Sun City Center do interesting things now and/or had fascinating careers before retirement,' said Rosie Clifton, author of 'Kissing Lots of Frogs: A Long Journey to Love.' 'People, Places and Things, therefore, will concentrate on bringing these people into the limelight for an hour every Monday afternoon.'

Kings Point resident Robert 'Bob' Lockwood Mills, published historian and biographer, will use his interviewing, writing and stage performance skills 'to reveal the uniqueness of the featured guest and his or her talents and contributions to society,' Clifton said.

Mills is 'very witty with a wonderful sense of humor and is at ease in the interview situation, plus he's very knowledgeable on many subjects.'

Interviews, performances or presentations will fill the hour.

No reservations are required.
