RIVERVIEW - After the first two days of tryouts, it looks like the Riverview High School boys soccer team is going young this year.
'We lost eight starters from last year, so we're totally rebuilding,' said Darik Olson, head coach. 'So far during tryouts, I've seen six or seven freshmen that I'm really excited about.'
Since the school does not have a junior varsity team, the tryouts for the varsity squad attracted a large turnout - 52 boys signed up, but only 25 will make the team. The team will begin the season with an away game Oct. 31 against Leto High School.
Coming off an 8-6-2 season, Olson expects junior Ozzie Ayra, senior goalie Austin Cochrane and upperclassmen to lead a team that will be long on talent but short on experience.
'We're probably going to take our lumps this year because so many of our guys are going to be freshmen,' Olson said. 'The upside of that is that this team is going to be good for the next couple of years.'
