South Shore residents with first-rate neighbors - who go beyond maintaining their lawn - can reward them for their efforts.
Hillsborough County's Office of Neighborhood Relations is seeking nominees for the winter quarter 2007 Lonnie Lea Napier Good Neighbor Award.
Individuals, neighborhood associations and community groups can make nominations through Nov. 3. All Hillsborough County residents are eligible to nominate and be nominated.
The nominee must demonstrate an ongoing spirit of compassion and helpfulness to his or her neighbors.
The annual award comes with a $2,000 grant to be awarded to the neighborhood association serving the area in which the recipient lives.
The county commission established the award in May 2000 in honor of Lonnie Lea Napier, who died after falling from a tree while trying to rescue a neighbor's cat.
The award is meant to recognize neighbors who help because help is needed.
The county commission will present the award at the Hillsborough County Neighborhoods Conference in spring.
