RUSKIN - It's time to take out the trash along Tampa Bay, and volunteers for the annual International Coastal Cleanup can report to one of several south Hillsborough County locations to volunteer.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the cleanup scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 15 at all sites.
Trash bags will be provided, along with free T-shirts and other prizes while supplies last. Volunteers should bring work gloves, sunscreen, insect repellant, hats, sunglasses and water. They should wear closed-toe footwear, like tennis shoes.
Here are the sites where volunteers will gather in the South Shore area:
•Apollo Beach Nature Preserve, 6767 Surfside Blvd., Apollo Beach
•Twin Oaks Plaza, 11072 U.S. 41 South, Gibsonton
•Three sites in Ruskin: Camp Bayou Preserve, 4202 24th St. S.E; Cockroach Bay, 3709 Gulf City Road; Little Manatee River, 808 Bay View Drive
Volunteers also will gather on the Sunshine Skyway South Fishing Pier off Interstate 275.
Last year in Hillsborough County, volunteers picked up litter and debris along 90 miles of shorelines and collected an estimated 63,800 pounds of trash, according to local cleanup coordinator Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful.
