RUSKIN - Ruskin United Methodist Church, 105 Fourth Ave. N.W., started the summer rolling with its Avalanche Ranch vacation Bible school in June.
In addition to memorizing Bible verses, singing and playing games, the youngsters stuffed cotton batting and a red heart into fleece teddy bears and wrote notes to be tucked into pockets on the fronts of the bears. The bears were given to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home.
Sonja Stark and helpers prepared a choir appreciation dinner June 24 and Jeremy and Katie Silverman entertained. A picnic for the community was held July 1. About 10 teens spent a week at St. Petersburg Beach studying the fruits of the Spirit and splashing in the surf.
Hal and C Jeffery, co-youth directors, accompanied more than a dozen to the Methodist camp in July. The campers were Brandon Cusic, Britt Cusic, Justin Minchew, Austin Ryan, Zack Strickland, Dylan Strickland, Drew Gill, Jett Yoho, Stephanie Riscile, Rachael Riscile, Haley Quiroz, Kim Oswalt, Zane McNair and Kenyon Flint.
The church also hosted a dozen students from the community at large at a music-reading, recorder-playing class taught by Robert Romanski, director of music.
No doubt about it. 'Ruskin United Methodist Church has had a busy summer,' said Sandi Rupert, church secretary.
