Friends Will Be Fishing For A Good Cause

RUSKIN - For most of his life, whenever the end of the week rolled around, Curtis Bunting could be found on the water.

'Fishing was really always my thing,' said Bunting, a Tampa resident who was born and raised in the area. 'I'd usually go out somewhere along the Tampa Bay, but I'd go out there pretty much every weekend.

In January, Bunting was diagnosed with cancer in his right kidney. Shortly thereafter, the kidney was removed, but the cancer metastasized to his liver, and a spot was found on his left kidney.

'It's looking pretty dim right now, but you never know,' Bunting said.
Bunting has been the drywall supervisor for Faith Plastering, Stucco & Drywall in Riverview for six years.

'He is just so sweet, and the nicest person you'll ever meet,' said Sara Morandi, office manager.

Though he has not been able to come into work for weeks, his co-workers are organizing an event based on one of Bunting's favorite pastimes.

The company is organizing a one-day, daylight-until-dark fishing tournament Oct. 13 at E.G. Simmons Park, 2401 19th Ave. N.W., Ruskin. The event was conceived by Billy Creel, owner of Faith Plastering.

Proceeds from the event, including registration fees and food tickets, will go to Bunting. Additional donations also will be accepted.

Although Bunting will not be able to participate in the tournament, he is looking forward to the event in his honor.

'I wish I could get out there with them, but I'm still really grateful and touched that they decided to do this,' Bunting said.
