RUSKIN - Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center, 4140 24th St. S.E., will host its Holiday Open House from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the family-friendly event is free, although there are nominal fees for certain optional activities.
Those include learning about and making clay sculptures of common birds and exploring the grounds by cart or guided walking tour.
Janet Zicht of Girl Scout Troop 966, who recently earned her Gold Award, will help children with nature-related crafts, and members of Girl Scout Troop 508 of Ruskin will greet visitors in the Nature Center. Camp Bayou's Butterfly Habitat, fossil museum and the Leisey-Casey Discovery Center will be open.
Native plants will be for sale.

Youth Activities Center Dedicated
RUSKIN - The youth of the Ruskin United Methodist Church and their families, with direction from Hal and C. Jeffery, spruced up a house at 111 W. Shell Point Road for use as a youth activities center.
Made up of students in sixth grade and older, the youth group meets in the new center at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Area youngsters are invited to join the fun and fellowship and participate in activities throughout the year, including camping, beach week and Walt Disney World's Night of Joy.

Art Club Offers Workshop
SUN CITY CENTER - The Art Club of Sun City Center will host a members-only workshop presented by Melissa Miller Nece from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 11 in the Art Room, 954 Cherry Hills Drive. Nece is a member of the Florida Artist Group, Colored Pencil Society of America, Professional Association of Visual Artists and Miniature Art Society of Florida.
The $40 workshop fee must be paid in advance.

Concert Features Christmas Music
APOLLO BEACH - A free concert called "Christmas Memories" will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 5309 U.S. 41 N. A reception will follow the show, in which Ellen Kleinschmidt, the Performing Arts Club Kids and others will perform.
A freewill offering will be taken for the church's Angel Tree project, which provides gifts for underprivileged area children. Proceeds will be matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
The Performing Arts Club Kids program, developed by Kleinschmidt and Lew Resseguie, is sponsored by the Performing Arts Club of Sun City Center. Participating children include Jake Massena, Sonny Lopez, Tristan Fox, Taylor Rohland, Megan Robinson, Kendal Walker, Victoria Von Essen, Kayla Thomas, Erin Hanson, Alyssa Garcia and 5-year-olds Jordan Thomas and Taylor Walker, who will make their debut performances.

Weavers Guild Holds Luncheon
SUN CITY CENTER - The Sun City Center Weavers Guild will remember events of 2008 and discuss plans for 2009 at its annual Christmas luncheon at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 10 in the Florida Room at 955 N. Course Lane.
Bluegrass musician Kelly Emerson will perform.

Enter Christmas Lights Contest
APOLLO BEACH - Anyone who likes to dazzle his or her neighborhood with Christmas lights and decorations may submit an entry form for the Apollo Beach Christmas Lighting Contest by 3:30 p.m. Dec. 12 to the Apollo Beach Chamber of Commerce office, 223 Flamingo Drive. Judging will take place between 6 and 9 p.m. Dec. 17.
There are two categories: residential and condo/apartment complexes. Each entry must be in the 33572 ZIP code and viewable by the public from 6 to 10 p.m. every day. Closed communities do not qualify.
Prizes for first, second and third place in each category will be awarded based on the originality, Christmas theme and presentation or neatness of the decorations. A certificate and yard sign will be awarded to each winner.
First-place residential winners also will win an autographed Tampa Bay Lightning hockey stick; second- and third-place residential winners will get a silk orchid arrangement.
