Published: December 10, 2008

RIVERVIEW - Twelve will soon be the number of the day at the Summerfield Crossings Golf Club.

The club will host the 12 Days of Christmas Golf Tournament to benefit the proposed Riverview Boys & Girls Club Friday. The date will be Dec. 12, and the event will have a noon - 12 p.m. - shotgun start.

"We thought it would be a good theme with the holidays coming up," said Christa Jerome, a financial services professional with New York Life Insurance Co. and the event's organizer.

Jerome also is a candidate for honorary mayor of Riverview. The golf tournament - featuring long-drive and closest-to-the-pin contests - is part of her fundraising efforts.

Since the Sept. 6 mayoral race kickoff, Jerome and fellow candidate Aaron Fredricks have raised money for charity and the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce.

"They are very close to building the Boys & Girls Club facility in Riverview," Jerome said. "I'm hoping our funds will help them break ground soon."

Fredricks, the owner of East Coast Pizza, will have his own fundraiser next week.

The Riverview Moose Lodge will host Pasta with Santa on Monday in support of Fredricks' mayoral bid. The event will feature photos with Santa.
Fredricks chose to donate half his proceeds to the Bloomingdale library attack victim.

"I'm mainly running to help raise money for the Bloomingdale girl," Fredricks said. "A lot of my employees are best friends with her.

"I deal with hundreds of people every day, and I felt like that gave me a huge opportunity to raise some money for a good cause."

The candidate who raises the most money by Jan. 9 wins. The winner will be announced at the chamber's dinner and awards banquet Jan. 27, and proceeds will be split between the chamber and the candidates' charities.
