RIVERVIEW - Seniors Courtney and Kayla Webb are about to be separated for the first time.
The identical twins always attended school together, including the last four years at Riverview High School.
That will change next year, because Kayla will play soccer for Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, while Courtney will attend Hillsborough Community College.
"It's unbelievable for me because I've been playing soccer since I was 6 and playing soccer in college has always been a dream of mine," Kayla said.
She has spent the past four years playing defense on the Riverview High School varsity girls' soccer team and is a goalie for the Spirit of '90 of the Florida Soccer Club, a Temple Terrace-based league of competitive soccer teams for players ages 9 to 19.
Kayla and Courtney shared the soccer pitch before they got to Riverview High.
"The two of them were on the same team for a while and they actually played with their younger sister, Ashlynn, who's a sophomore," said Alicia Webb, the girls' mother. "Ever since high school, they've been very competitive, and they've been very loyal to their own sports."
After Courtney became a Shark, she stopped playing soccer in favor of joining the school's cheerleading squad.
"I really wanted to start cheering again," said Courtney, who is one minute older than Kayla. "I'd done it when I was really young, but I stopped for a few years to play soccer.
"I love it because I enjoy competing and I got to learn how to fly my freshman year," she said, referring to a cheerleading technique.
Courtney plans to study nursing for two years at Hillsborough Community College before transferring to Florida State University. Kayla wants to dual enroll at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and major in athletic training.
The twins say they helped each other withstand the pressure of balancing high school athletics and academics.
"It's been easier our senior year, but before that, we just tried our best, went to tutoring and did homework whenever we could," Courtney said.
"We helped each other out as much as we could, and we always will," Kayla said.
