RUSKIN - Several generations of women gathered for a light lunch, tea and goodies to celebrate the holiday season and raise money for charity.

At $17 a pop, 121 women dressed in their Sunday best came to one of two afternoon seatings of the Ruskin Woman's Club Star-Spangled Christmas Tea.

"The attendance was a bit less than last year, but the tea was nonetheless quite successful," said club President Wilma Wood.

"The proceeds will go to our general fund, which we use for charitable purposes," she said.

Chaired by Sonja Council, a committee of 21 members set the menu and prepared the lunch, which included chicken salad with cranberries and grapes, quiche, scones, breads and muffins, cheeses and homemade sweets.

Bonnie Cumbey and Iris Young bedecked the clubhouse with the help of Frances Hereford, who loaned patriotic and Christmas-themed decorations from her store, Southern Grace.

Ruskin Junior Woman's Club members Amber Council, Laurette Buzbee, Morgendee Flannery and Carolyn Jones volunteered to serve guests and help their senior counterparts.

"This was our second year" to attend, said Pauline Yannotti of Sun City Center, who came with several fellow Red Hatters. "I enjoyed the food, especially everything homemade. It was both patriotic and Christmassy. I had a good time."
