RUSKIN - Construction has begun on the first building in the South Shore Corporate Park on 30th Street that is expected to be completed by March 31.
Ryan Companies US, which owns about 400 acres of the 1,000-acre mixed-use development, is building the first phase of the commercial and industrial park - a 92,000-square-foot building that will be offered for lease.

Gary Bauler, vice president of development for Ryan, said his company does not have specific tenants for the first building, but does have talks under way with several companies.

As part of the construction's first phase, Ryan is also completing the pad for the next project, a 400,000-square-foot building. That structure, Bauler said, can be completed in five months, once a major tenant is found.

Work will also begin soon on major roadwork that is part of the project, he said. First, an access road to the park will be built from the existing two-lane 30th Street. Then, beginning about April, 30th Street will be widened to four lanes and realigned, from State Road 674 to the middle of the industrial park site.

The industrial park is part of the South Shore Corporate Park, built on former Dickman family land, that includes plans for about 2,000 homes, a hotel, a park and a school. It also is home to the new South Shore campus of Hillsborough Community College.
