Published: February 13, 2008

RUSKIN - The second annual SouthShore Plein Air Festival will take place March 28-30, with artists painting at various locations throughout the area.

There will be artist location maps available at the Ruskin Chamber of Commerce and The Resort & Club at Little Harbor a week prior to the festival. Artists will be drawing and painting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Scheduled spots include YMCA Camp Christina in Riverview; the Manatee Viewing Center in Apollo Beach; Camp Bayou; The Resort & Club at Little Harbor; E.G. Simmons Park; and the Ruskin Woman's Club in Ruskin.

"Plein air" refers to an art style that requires painting spontaneously in nature, dealing with shifting light and shade and other variables of the outdoors.

There will be a free reception at Little Harbor from 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday. Awards will be presented during the first hour, and the best work produced during the festival will be on display and for sale at the artists' discretion.

For information, call Anne Madden, (813) 645-3732
