WIMAUMA - Mary Murray of Wimauma was recently honored by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a Community Quarterback because of the amount of volunteer work she does.

Murray is a member of Trail Blazing Sams, a chapter of Good Sam International, where she is involved in numerous projects, such as Adopt-A-Road, Adopt-A-Park, Give A Day for the Bay, Special Olympics and any other project where she can be of assistance.

Murray, an avid crotchetier, makes numerous lap robes for seniors in assisted living facilities and veterans hospitals, blankets and hats for newborns in hospitals and orphanages in China and cuts plastic shopping bags into strips to crochet them into "Treasure Totes" for people in assisted living facilities to hang on their wheelchairs or walkers. She makes over-sized bibs from plastic table cloths for senior citizens.

Murray was given front row seats for the Bucs/Giants playoff game and was presented a football by former Buccaneer Shelton Quarles before the game. She was also given $1,800 for her favorite charity. She asked the donation be split three ways and gave $600 each to the Salvation Army Bell Ringers, Gifts for Teaching and the Ronald McDonald House.

The Community Quarterback program is sponsored by the NFL and honors up to 10 people in each of the team-based areas who demonstrate leadership, dedication and a commitment to helping others through their volunteer work.
