RIVERVIEW - Motorists on Causeway Boulevard should be on the lookout for lane closures as the Florida Department of Transportation and Tampa Electric Co. expect to have workers in the area.
State transportation officials said the $50 million widening of Causeway between U.S. 41 and U.S. 301 began Monday. During the next 2 1/2 years, the road will grow from two lanes to four and receive a new drainage system and lighting. Intersection improvements, including new traffic lights and pedestrian signals, are planned for U.S. 41, U.S. 301, Maydell Drive and 78th Street.

Most delays associated with construction work will occur after 7 p.m., officials said.

To the east on Causeway, at Falkenburg Road, TECO workers will be installing a transformer and poles. Hillsborough County officials said work may temporarily close a lane during daylight hours through Thursday.

TECO also plans to install a new transformer and poles along John Robbins Road between Tucker Jones and Harold Bedford roads. Work is authorized through Thursday and may affect the northbound lane.

The power company will be trimming trees along McMullen Road between Boyette and Balm-Riverview roads through March 14. The county has authorized alternating lane closures to allow the work.

County workers may need to close the westbound lane of McMullen Loop to repair a guardrail. Crews will be working on the road between Glenbrook Drive and Dee Ellen Lane through Friday.
