Battle Of The Bands Pirates Perform

Honor The Rev. King

The Tampa Bay Black Heritage Street Festival, in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., will have a full slate of activities Saturday and Sunday at Al Lopez Park, 4810 N. Himes Ave., Tampa

Saturday's free festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. with a 2-kilometer walk/run event. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. The event will be followed by giveaways and health screenings by physician Ian Smith from 10 a.m. to noon.

Musical performers will hit the stage from noon to 6 p.m. Performers include Rose Royce and the Sugarhill Gang.

The music continues Sunday with jazz from noon to 6 p.m. Featured performers include Walter Beasley and BK Jackson.

The 23rd Annual National MLK Jr. Drum Major for Justice and Battle of the Bands Extravaganza starts at 6:15 p.m. Sunday at Tropicana Field, One Tropicana Drive, St. Petersburg. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the gate or $15 for VIP seating. Call (727) 327-0085.

Swashbuckling Ballet

The Orlando Ballet brings "Pirates of Penzance!" to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 1010 N. W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $18.50 to $59.50. Call (813) 229-7827 or visiting www.tbpac.org.

Here Comes A Parade

The 23rd Annual National MLK Jr. Drum Major for Justice Parade will begin at 1:15 p.m. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and Third Avenue South in St. Petersburg.

Hot Topic: Taxes

State Sen. Ronda Storms, R-Valrico, will hold a community meeting at 10 a.m. Jan. 25 in the Caper Room of the Sun City Center Community Association Building, 1009 N. Pebble Beach Blvd., Sun City Center, to address the proposed constitutional amendment concerning property taxes.

The amendment will be voted on during the Jan. 29 primary.

A Benefit With Variety

The annual variety show to benefit the Mary and Martha House is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Sun City Center Community Hall, 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd., Sun City Center.

Bob Boyd and his 42nd Street Band will show their diverse music range from big band, swing and jazz to contemporary. Vocalist Carolyn Cline and comedian Barry St. Ives are among some of the other performers that will be featured during the evening.

Tickets are $12 and available at the Ruskin and Apollo Beach chambers of commerce and the Mary and Martha House, 1009 First St. S.W., Ruskin. For information, call (813) 645-7874.
