New Doc Is In At HealthPoint

RUSKIN - It's a long way from Puerto Rico, where he was raised and educated, but physician Casey Jimenez feels right at home in South Shore.

"This area is just perfect for me," he said. "It has a small-town feel, and yet it's close to the city. I also like its diversity and proximity to family and friends. And the weather is just awesome."

The 31-year-old internist joined Michelle Becker of HealthPoint Medical Group last October, after serving in the Air Force.

"Dr. Jimenez and I complement each other," Becker said. "He's a really nice guy, and I look forward to building this practice together. Before he came, we had gotten so busy that patients sometimes had to wait a week or two for an appointment. Now they have minimal or no wait."

Jimenez was born in New York but grew up in Puerto Rico. Graduating magna cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico in 1998, he earned his medical degree at Universidad Iberoamericana School of Medicine in the Dominican Republic. He graduated cum laude and went on to do a three-year residency at San Juan City Hospital.

"I joined the Air Force during my residency out of a strong desire to serve my country," Jimenez said. After graduation, he was stationed for four years at Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle.

Jimenez chose internal medicine as his specialty because he wanted to focus on adults, particularly seniors. That is the core of his new practice at HealthPoint, and Becker practices family medicine. His clinical interests also include diabetes, preventative health and health care administration.

"Dr. Jimenez is friendly, efficient and flexible," said medical assistant Michelle Bowers. "The patients really like him. And since he's bilingual, he's able to put our Spanish-speaking patients at ease."

Jimenez and his wife, Jubeth, own a home in Riverview.

In his spare time, he enjoys cultivating orchids, reading history books, running and watching foreign films.
