SUN CITY CENTER - The call is out for volunteers to help out at the upcoming Sun City Center FunFest.
The event, in its ninth year and slated for March 15, is a day of free entertainment, health checkups, exhibits by some of the 140 Sun City Center Community Association clubs and "reasonably priced food," said Ann Marie Leblanc, a board member and event chairwoman.
The festival will take place at the SCC central campus on North Pebble Beach Boulevard.
"FunFest is about showcasing the SCC lifestyle," Leblanc said.
"Planning has actually been under way all year," LeBlanc said, although the core group of 19 met formally for the first time in December. "We are fortunate that many of our veteran committee members will help again this year."
Judy Schings, (813) 642-9116, is entertainment chairwoman. And Barbara Gingrich is helping her line up acts for the Florida Room, Rollins Theater and outdoor tent.
Linda Cannarella, (813) 633-3500, is coordinator for events at other campus locations.
Now that club presidents have been notified about opportunities to have a table or become a sponsor, "It will help tremendously if they respond now rather than at the last minute to let us know their intentions," Cannarella said.
Fred Kroog, liaison for business exhibits and sponsorships, can be reached at (813) 633-3604.
Other committee members include Lyn Reitz, association manager; Bill and Phyllis Hodges, publicity; John and Linda Bowker, welcoming; Lannie Cardwell and Bill Dauber, parking; Bill Griffin, food; Kelly Emerson, association operations; Marcy Kuhn, chairman's assistant; Marian Armstrong and Bruce Arnold, advisers; Paul Thibault, sponsors; Lannie Cardwell, security; and Deputy Rob Thornton, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
For information or to volunteer, call the association office, (813) 633-3500.

"The club is currently in the process of renovating the flower beds at the squad and is committed to bringing added beauty to the site, given all that the emergency squad does for our city," said Molly Tenney, club president. A flag-raising ceremony and ribbon cutting by Christine Patrick, chief of the emergency squad, will precede the club members' planting of the tree.
"We are also sponsoring a truly significant event for the South Shore area on Feb. 7," Tenney said. It will be a free "full-day workshop on landscape solutions for homeowners that will focus on water conservation, Florida native plants, xeriscaping and integrated pest management."
