Boyette Road To Close At Night

Published: January 19, 2008

RIVERVIEW - Night-owl drivers will have to find a way around parts of Boyette Road, starting Monday night.

Hillsborough County staff and contractor crews are scheduled to close Boyette from Balm-Riverview Road west to Allenwood Drive at 9 p.m. Monday and reopen it at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Eastbound motorists can turn south on Allenwood and then east on Maybrook Avenue to access Balm-Riverview Road and head back to Boyette. Westbound motorists can reverse that route or take Balm-Riverview north to U.S. 301.

Starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Boyette will close from McMullen Road to Donneymoor Drive. The road is expected to reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday.

Motorists can use McMullen and Donneymoor as a detour.

The county is relocating water and sewer lines in the area in conjunction with the widening of Boyette Road between Balm-Riverview and Donneymoor. The contract includes installing a 24-inch diameter pipe to increase the capacity of the water lines supplying the area.

Meanwhile, the county is preparing to take bids on the next phase of the Boyette Road widening project, which will expand the road to four lanes from Donneymoor east to Bell Shoals Road. Construction could start in late spring or early summer and take 12 to 18 months, said county spokesman Steve Valdez.

That leg of the project had been expected to start construction last fall but was delayed because of issues with right-of-way acquisition, he said.

The next stretch is expected to cost more than $20 million, largely because it will include replacing a bridge over Bell Creek, Valdez said.

Motorists, Move Over

Drivers also can anticipate some disruption on busy 19th Avenue Northeast in Ruskin. The road will remain open, but workers will close alternating lanes intermittently between 18th Street Northeast and 30th Street Northeast, beginning Tuesday through Jan. 31.

Workers hired by Ryan Companies USA, the developer of South Shore Corporate Park near 19th and 30th Street Southeast, will be testing the road core to determine whether extra maintenance is needed in anticipation of additional traffic, county officials said.

Ryan broke ground last year on the South Shore complex, which will offer 90,000 square feet of office space and 400,000 square feet of warehouses.

Leisey Road To Close

Starting Monday, people who use Leisey Road in Apollo Beach will have to find other ways to reach their destination.

Leisey is scheduled to be closed between U.S. 41 and Golf and Sea Boulevard until Feb. 14 to allow construction workers to rebuild the westbound side of the road. County officials suggest using MiraBay Boulevard as a detour.
