Take A Swing At 1 Of 3 Charitable Golf Tournaments

VALRICO - The Greater Brandon Community Foundation will hold its Charity Golf Classic from Feb. 7-11.

The event includes three golf tournaments that weekend at River Hills Country Club, 3943 New River Hills Parkway.

The first will be the Tournament of Champions hosted by Carlos Tosca, the Florida Marlins bench coach. Proceeds will benefit the Brandon Foundation C.J. Tosca Fund, which was established in honor of Tosca's 2-year-old son, C.J., who lost his fight against cancer 20 years ago. The Tosca family wants to assist families of children with cancer.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. Feb. 7, with a shotgun start at 9. The fee is $600 per foursome, and an awards banquet will take place after the tournament.

The second will be the Celebrity Pro-Am hosted by Alex Smith of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Feb. 9. Registration and brunch begin at 9 a.m., a celebrity contest is at 10 and the shotgun start is at 11. After the tournament there will be an awards banquet.

The third will be the First Tee of Tampa Bay Brandon Invitational. Registration will take place at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 9 Feb. 11. There will be an awards banquet. The cost is $600 per foursome.

Registration for the Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament begins at 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, 5223 N. Orient Road. The tournament starts at 3. The cost is $250 per player.

Art Club Chooses Artist Of Month
SUN CITY CENTER - The Art Club of Sun City Center's Frank Carl is artist of the month for January.

His work is on display at the Sun City Center Library, the Sun City Center Chamber of Commerce, A.G. Edwards and Sons, the Sun City Center Golf and Racquet Club, the Sun City Center Visitor's Center and the Art Room.

Carl painted his first watercolor in kindergarten. He said that mechanical drawing and geometry classes helped develop his drawing skills. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and a master's in industrial management from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

When he moved to Sun City Center six years ago, he took classes from artists Virginia Laudano, Suzanne Peck and Roberta Snyder.

Knights To Serve Barbecue Carryout

RUSKIN - The St. Anne Council 7210 Knights of Columbus will hold a barbecue carryout from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, 106 11th Ave., N.E.

Dinners of pulled pork, beans, cole slaw and rolls may be picked up at the church.

Art Show Promises Plenty Of Competition

TAMPA - The Bay Area Art Show, sponsored by Tampa Realistic Artists, will take place Feb. 5 through March 14 at Old Hyde Park Gallery, 705 Swann Ave.

Artists may drop off their work between noon and 3 p.m. Jan. 31 through Feb. 3 at the gallery.

The entry fee is $15 for one painting, $25 for two, per TRA member. The fee for nonmembers is $20 for one painting, $35 for two. The show is offering more than $1,500 in cash and prizes.

Groups Seeking Plein Air Artists
SUN CITY CENTER - The South Shore Arts Council and Sun City Center Community Foundation are taking applications and seeking sponsors for the second annual South Shore Plein Air Festival.

The event will be March 28-30 at locations in the South Shore area.
