APOLLO BEACH - Families in the Kings Lake subdivision, west of East Bay High School, played games and feasted on hot dogs, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows last month, courtesy of the South Shore United Methodist Church.
Staff member Laura Hill planned the event to acquaint the community with the church.
Church member and corporate chef Jeff Cofer operated the grill. Teens played basketball, and younger children jumped in a bounce house. Local artist Cory Wright painted faces, including Madison Cofer's.
The church's office is at 435 Apollo Beach Blvd., and its worship services take place at 10:30 a.m. Sundays in the East Bay High School auditorium, 7710 Big Bend Road, Gibsonton.

Women Of Distinction To Be Honored
SUN CITY CENTER - The Sun City Center branch of the American Association of University Women invites South Shore women and men to its annual Women of Distinction luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 12 at Community Hall, 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd.
It will include not only the luncheon, award presentations and comments by the honorees, but also a silent auction and card party. Proceeds will benefit the group's scholarship fund.
The 2008 Women of Distinction are Shelley Broader, president and chief executive officer of Sweetbay Supermarkets; Norma Gene Lykes, president of the F.E. Lykes Foundation; Doris Ragland, director of Sun City Center's Samaritan Services; and Gwendolyn Stephenson, president of Hillsborough Community College.

Club Presents 'Songs of New York'
SUN CITY CENTER - The Sun City Center Performing Arts Club's winter show begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rollins Theater, 970 Cherry Hills Drive, and continues Friday and Feb. 2, Feb. 7-9, and Feb. 14-16. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The show, written by Ed Brown, is directed by well-known actor Lew Resseguie, produced by Barbara Brtva and choreographed by Diane LeFrancois. It depicts real and fictional New York characters such as Fiorello LaGuardia, Nicely-Nicely Johnson and Daddy Warbucks.
Songs by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Simon and Garfunkel, Irving Berlin, Billy Joel "and others with New York in their hearts" will be featured, Brown said. The cast includes Jeanne Naish, Ellen Kleinschmidt, Annie Hunter, Betty Bishop, Jean Brown, Peter Farina, Bob Garrod and Camille Haro.

Broadway Babies Come To Ohio Club
SUN CITY CENTER - Members of the Ohio Club of Sun City Center are invited to a lasagna dinner and meeting to elect new officers at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Florida Room, 955 N. Course Lane.
After officers have been selected, the group will proceed to the Rollins Theater, 970 Cherry Hills Drive, for a musical salute to the movies by Ellen Kleinschmidt and the Cypress Creek Elementary School Broadway Babies.

Best Of Burlesque 2008 On Tap For Feb. 9
SUN CITY CENTER - The Sun City Center Woman's Club presents the Best of Burlesque 2008 at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 in Community Hall, 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd. The show is for residents of Sun City Center and Kings Point.
Admission is $20 a person; attendees may bring snacks and beverages. The club provides ice, water and cups.
Entertainers include Bob and Marty Hamill, a comedy-ventriloquist team; mezzo-soprano Amanda Segur; and baritone Lothar Bergeest.

Watercolor Workshop Offered In February
SUN CITY CENTER - The Art Club of Sun City Center will offer a February watercolor workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in the Art Room, 954 Cherry Hills Drive.
The presenter will be Jack Nolan, teacher of plein air painting for the Longboat Key Center for the Arts.
The fee is $45 for advance registration; for walk-ins, the fee is $50. The sign-up sheet is in the art room.
"In an envelope near the sign-up sheet is a picture that each attendee will have to sketch out and work from during the workshop," said publicity chairman Ed Laudano. "If possible, this should be done in advance."
Lunch will be provided for about $11. Attendees may bring drinks.

Accordion Club Plans Unfolding
SUN CITY CENTER - A meeting to discuss plans to start an accordion club in Sun City Center will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Florida Room of the Atrium Building, 945 N. Course Lane. Players, former players and accordion music fans are invited.
