GIBSONTON - Though Brandon Buford has lived all over the world, he says South Shore is notable for at least one thing.
"There's a lot more to do in Riverview than a lot of the other places I've lived," Buford said.
One of those things he's done in this area is play basketball.
Buford, who moved to Riverview less than two years ago, has been a part of East Bay High School varsity boys basketball team for two seasons.
The self-described military brat has also lived in Guam, Panama and Turkey.
"He's an exceptionally good student-athlete, and he's one of the leaders on the team," said Stan Conley, head coach. "He's never missed a day in practice in two years, and he's certainly one of the most coachable kids I've ever had."
Buford, 18, is in his senior season and is the starting small forward on the team, which got off to a 1-14 start.
"I picked up basketball from my older brother, Greg, about six years ago, and I've been playing it ever since," he said.
Though basketball is the only sport he plays for East Bay, Buford also enjoys playing baseball.
Still, his ultimate focus is far from the court.
Buford plans to attend the University of South Florida and enroll in the pre-dental program.
"I was looking over different careers, and that one just sort of stood out," he said. "Basketball is a lot of fun in high school, but once I get to college my focus is going to be on my studies."
