Sweetbay Anchors MiraBay Village

APOLLO BEACH - Things are about to get a whole lot sweeter in Apollo Beach, when MiraBay Village is completed at U.S. 41 and Leisey Road.

That's because a 49,680-square-foot Sweetbay Supermarket will anchor the plaza, which will feature 175,000 square feet of specialty shops, restaurants and office space, in addition to 80 town homes.

The 31-acre site north of MiraBay is being developed by Crosland LLC. The architectural style of the complex will reflect the coastal-living designs found in MiraBay.

Barring delays, Crosland anticipates the project will celebrate its grand opening sometime between October and the end of the year. The Sweetbay is slated to open by late summer or early fall.

Besides MiraBay, other nearby subdivisions include Harbour Isles and SouthShore Falls. Waterset, Braemar and Bay Park also are close by.

The new Sweetbay will be larger and carry more items than its counterpart in Ruskin, which will remain open.

The Apollo Beach grocery will have expanded seafood and butcher shops, a larger produce department, bakery, pharmacy and liquor store.

"Market analysis indicated a need for the store near MiraBay," said Sweetbay spokeswoman Nicole LeBeau. "There are plenty of neighborhoods and families nearby to support it."
