Cancer Group To Hear About Acupuncture

SUN CITY CENTER - SUN CITY CENTER - The Women with Cancer Concerns group will learn about the role of acupuncture in health and wellness from physician Diane Zhao of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at United Community Church, 1501 La Jolla Ave.

Zhao received her training as a medical acupuncturist at Henan Medical University in China and at the University of California at Los Angeles' Medical Acupuncture for Physicians program.

Johnny Thunder In Concert

Johnny Thunder, whose musical journey has taken him from his birth-state, Florida, to New York and back, will make a stop from 7 to 10 p.m. July 19 at Community Hall, 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd.

Thunder, who was the lead vocalist for The Drifters, will perform such hits as "Loop de Loop," "I'm Alive," "Everybody do the Sloopy" and "You Send Me."

Rocky and the Rollers of Archer will accompany Thunder.

Tickets are $22 per person. Attendees are invited to bring their own snacks and drinks.

Tennis Players Invited To Round-Robin Party
Adult tennis players in the Sun City Center area are invited to an open-house, mixed-doubles, round-robin party at 9 a.m. July 26 on the newly resurfaced courts at the Sun City Center Golf and Racquet Club, 1702 S. Pebble Beach Blvd.

Danish pastries, juice and coffee will be available at 8:45 a.m.; hot dogs, side dishes and desserts will be served about noon.

"It doesn't matter if you haven't played tennis in years. ... It doesn't matter if you are a pro ... as long as you can hit a ball and enjoy playing the game, we want you!" said Linda Peterson, publicity coordinator for the group of regular tennis players. Racquet club membership is not required.

The cost is $3 per person.

Students, Bored With Summer? Volunteer

RUSKIN - Students adrift in the doldrums of summer may find meaning and purpose as volunteers at the Mary and Martha House administrative office or thrift store, 1009 First St. S.W.

"We need help sorting donations, cleaning and stocking shelves, yard work," said Jan Falcione, community resource manager. "Or let us know your particular talent, and we'll put you to work."

The Mary and Martha House shelters women and children in crisis situations.

The organization has two emergency shelters and transitional housing in South Hillsborough County.
