GIBSONTON - A Wednesday night thunderstorm had an even greater impact than just drenching a good part of south Hillsborough.
About 1,100 Tampa Electric Co. customers lost power for a portion of the evening after a circuit went out in the Gibsonton substation, said Rick Morera, TECO's senior spokesman.
The areas affected were predominantly Gibsonton and Riverview.
Morera said the problem with the substation circuit was rectified after one hour and 42 minutes.
"There could have been people that were without power for longer than that based on individual circumstances with certain homes," Morera said.
