RIVERVIEW - The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority has made several changes and adjustments to some bus routes.

One of those changes involves a new park-n-ride location in FishHawk.

The FishHawk Sports Complex Park-n-Ride, 16120 FishHawk Blvd., opened July 7 and replaced the FishHawk Fellowship Church Park-n-Ride.

The project is a partnership between HART, Hillsborough County and Newland Communities.

Newland Communities, which developed the nearby, 3,000-acre FishHawk Ranch, contributed $100,000 toward the project.

"Accessible public transportation in and around our communities is very important for residents and businesses alike," said Rick Harcrow, senior vice president of operations for Newland.

The new park-n-ride will include 94 parking spaces, two shelters with lighting and bench seating, and bike racks.

The facility will serve passengers of routes 24x, which transports commuters to and from MacDill Air Force Base, and 27x, which takes passengers to south Brandon and downtown Tampa.

The 24x route also makes stops at the Riverview Oaks Park-n-Ride, which is at Boyette Road and U.S. 301.

Kathy Karalekas, public information officer for HART, said the 24x express bus had a 42 percent increase in passengers between 2007 and 2008.

The FishHawk park-n-ride's hours are between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
