GIBSONTON - Yanelly Urena has opened a new shop in the Twin Oaks Shopping Plaza where she sells party decorations and favors, many of which she creates with ribbon, lace and faux jewels.

YMS Decorations offers decorations and favors for baby showers, weddings and quinceaneras. She also rents or sells wedding, confirmation and party gowns.

Urena also makes baskets for baby showers and other events and creates fruit baskets, centerpieces for cakes, corsages, floral centerpieces and perfume baskets.

Other popular items, she said, are the baby and wedding shower chairs and wishing well that she decorates and rents for parties.

Urena opened her shop at an indoor flea market in Ruskin. During her three-month stay there, she created a clientele that she hopes will follow her to her new location.

She got into the decoration business, she said, when she was at a low point in her life and looking for something to do at the time her niece, Amy Bueno, now 16, was preparing for her quinceanera.

"I had never done it before but volunteered to make her favors and decorations; I just decided to do it. Everyone liked them," she said, and she soon had requests to do more events.

"The work really helped me to forget about my problems," she said.
