Kiwanis Club Thanks Local Schools

SUN CITY CENTER - An appreciation luncheon was held by the Kiwanis Club of Sun City Center May 6 at Aston Gardens at the Courtyards.

Seel Lundy, club president, expressed her gratitude to student and faculty representatives of seven area elementary schools - Apollo Beach, Collins, Corr, Cypress Creek, Doby, Ruskin and Wimauma - for support of the Kiwanis K-Kids and Terrific Kids programs.

Eight K-Kids, two principals - Ellen Cyr of Collins and Lisa Jackson of Cypress Creek - and six counselors - Sue Chapin, Val Dickson, Dianne Van Etten, Milady Asbacio, Audra Pennant and Amy Kulwolski - attended the luncheon.

K-Kids is a service organization for elementary school children that encourages them to be "Terrific Kids." "Terrific" stands for thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive and capable.

Lundy, who directs the club's youth programs, awarded a certificate of thanks to each school. The schools collected several thousand dollars for cancer research, according to club publicity chairman Joe Nargolwala.

Bob Conigliaro, vice president for community relations for the Caspers Co., which owns 51 Tampa Bay area McDonald's restaurants, was the luncheon's guest speaker and explained that he hires only the best of the best and promotes them if they meet the high standards, said Nargolwala.

"He told the youngsters not to be sidetracked by the bad element in their midst, but to keep their nose to the grindstone."
