Church Members Award College Scholarships

SUN CITY CENTER - Members of United Community Church, 1501 La Jolla Ave., celebrated Scholarship Sunday on June 1.

At the service the congregation had the chance to meet the students the church is supporting with scholarships.

Lonnie Mozingo, a past recipient, spoke to the congregation and expressed his gratitude for their part in helping him achieve his goals and complete graduation.

The congregation met the scholarship winners and their families at a reception. Those students are:

Rachel Robinson of Ruskin, who is studying physical therapy at the University of South Florida.

Crystal Bissada of Gibsonton, studying music education at USF.

Jared Hodge of Ruskin, studying computer science at USF.

Derek Hughes of Ruskin, studying business finance at USF.

Tracy Langford of Tampa, studying pediatric nursing at USF.

Jericha Lopez of Riverview, studying biology at USF.

Miguel Miron of Ruskin, studying pharmacology at Florida A&M University.

Eugenia Paszek of Riverview, studying veterinary medicine at Hillsborough Community College.

Apolonia Reza of Ruskin, studying dietetics at Florida State University.

Nicholas Ruiz of Apollo Beach, studying business management at Drexel University, Philadelphia.

The members of the scholarship committee are Jo Prater, chairwoman; Jeff Austin; Vicki Elsberry; Michael Evans, senior minister; Gwen Haegert; Dick Herrmann; Hazel Martin; and Rip Ripley.
