RIVERVIEW - Work crews were busy last week installing and replacing power poles along U.S. 301 between Symmes and Rhodine roads.
Tampa Electric Co. spokesman Rick Morera said the work is part of a bigger project. Old poles had to be moved in anticipation of a project that will widen the highway from two lanes to six. The company is replacing standard wooden distribution poles along the 6-mile stretch of highway from Gibsonton Drive south that is targeted for widening.
Workers also installed transmission poles 90 feet high along about 3 miles of highway, Morera said. The widening project is to begin this fall.
