Artist To Demonstrate Technique, Giclees

SUN CITY CENTER - The Art Club of Sun City Center will present a demonstration of pencil drawing and giclees - full-color reproductions of original work - by Tim Mandese of Brandon at 1 p.m. Monday after a short club meeting, in the Rollins Theater, 970 Cherry Hills Drive.

The demonstration is free and open to the public; membership is not required.

Mandese's love of pencil drawing began when he was a child. After working in a family business until he was 29, he attended Florida Metropolitan University to study commercial art. His drawings have earned three first-place ribbons at the Florida State Fair, including this year. He started a home-based business in 2007, making high-quality giclee prints of his work and that of other local artists.

Learn To Read Newspaper By Phone

BRANDON - Does low vision or blindness keep local news at bay? Want to know what is in the newspaper?

A workshop will explain how to access Newsline, an audio news service, in an interactive presentation sponsored by the National Federation of the Blind from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Golden Corral, 815 Providence Road.

Attendees can buy their breakfast between 10 and 11 a.m. The monthly meeting of the East Hillsborough Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Florida will take place after the presentation.

Newsline can be accessed through a toll-free number. It makes periodicals such as The Tampa Tribune, USA Today and English and Spanish versions of AARP the Magazine available to the blind. Others who cannot hold or read a newspaper also may benefit from the free service.

"Newspapers provide timely, in-depth reporting of local, national, and world news unlike any other medium," said Marion Gwizdala, chapter president. "Having such information available through an interactive, on-demand, accessible format removes a major obstacle to obtaining information for the blind."

For information, call Gwizdala, (813) 626-2789, or e-mail president@blind411.org. For information about the chapter, go to www.blind411.org. To learn about the National Federation of the Blind or NFB-Newsline, go to www.nfb.org.
