All-Academic Team Named

GIBSONTON - With the regular seasons of their respective sports wrapped up, a group of high school athletes was recently celebrated for its accomplishments inside the classroom.

During a ceremony May 7 at the school, East Bay High School named its 2007-08 All-Academic Team.

The 21-member team consists of the students with the highest unweighted grade-point averages in each of the school's sports.

"This is truly the cream of the crop," said Scot Tipton, athletic director. "This is a group of students who truly make our school proud."

The boys on the team are Jared Bramble, golf, who has a 3.87 grade-point average; Chaz Burrows, football, 3.79; Kyle Homsey, wrestling, 3.96; Alan McGillivray, baseball, 3.63; Bradley Moore, track and field, 3.66; Brian Phillips, basketball, 3.27; Boni-Ryan Santa Maria, tennis, 3.69; Zach Talbott, cross country, 3.85; Juan Toro, swimming, 3.65; Brandon Walker, soccer, 3.70.

The girls named to the team were Natalie Coker, swimming, 4.00; Shytina Harley, basketball, 4.00; Nichole Jeter, cheerleading, 3.90; Kayla Keene, softball, 3.60; Amy Lemus, flag football, 3.79; Christina McComber, volleyball, 3.81; Lindsey Rankin, soccer, 3.98; Abigail Rolfe, golf, 3.62; Meghan Sandora, tennis, 3.81; Lauren Verbosky, track and field, 3.98; Morgan Williams, cross country, 4.00.

On May 15, while seven of the team's members were occupied with advanced placement exams, the remaining 14 gathered in front of the school for a photograph Tipton said will be displayed in the school's main office.

Each student also received a trophy and a commemorative pin.

"They're all going to be successful from here on out, but it still feels really good to honor them for all the hard work they've already put in," Tipton said.
