Published: November 19, 2008

VALRICO - Catholics will kick off the Advent season with a concert featuring national Christian recording artist Matt Maher.

Adore 2097 will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 5049 Bell Shoals Road in Valrico. Maher, a singer, songwriter and worship leader, has released four CDs including his latest, "Empty and Beautiful," which includes the hit song, "Your Grace is Enough."
Fellow Christian recording artists Kelly Pease and Josh Blakesly will also appear.

Started five years ago, Adore 2097 has drawn audiences of more than 1,000. Performers at the event consider themselves missionaries because, they say, they help young adults who feel disconnected find their way back to God.

The name, Adore 2097 comes from paragraph 2097 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, an instructional book that states, "To adore God is to praise and exalt him and to humble oneself, as Mary did in the Magnificat, confessing with gratitude that he has done great things and holy is his name."

Tickets for the event are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. For every eight tickets purchased, the buyer gets one free ticket. Purchase them at the church office or mail checks made out to St. Stephen Church to 5049 Bell Shoals Road, Valrico, FL 33596.
