Navigate The Maze That Is Health Care

Jeff Knott will speak about his book, "Navigating the HealthCare Maze: What You Need to Know."

Tickets On Sale For Liberace Show

The Sun City Center Woman's Club will present Liberace impersonator Martin Preston in a Las Vegas-style show at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in Community Hall, 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd.

With Preston will be song-stylist William Garon, performing swing, standards and Broadway tunes.

The show is one of two annual fundraisers presented by the club to continue its support of military personnel and addressing educational and women's issues.

Tickets are $20 per person and are available between 9 a.m. and noon Wednesdays and Fridays at the ticket kiosk in the Atrium Building, 945 North Course Lane.

Understanding God's Plan

The Rev. Michael Evans, senior minister of United Community Church, will present a new six-week series called Introducing the New Testament from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, starting Oct. 15 at the church, 1501 La Jolla Ave.

The series will provide an overview of the New Testament and a basic understanding of God's plan, said Hazel Martin, publicity coordinator for the church in a recent e-mail.

The series costs $5 per person. Registration will take place at 11 a.m. Sundays after the 10 a.m. worship service or weekdays during office hours at the church office.

Dance To Help Parents Of Autistic Children

PLANT CITY - The Concerned Parents of Autistic Children is hosting its third annual Old Time Rock 'n' Roll Dance fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Grand Ballroom at the Red Rose Inn and Suites, 2011 N. Wheeler St.

The price is $60 per person or $100 per couple if purchased before Friday, and $65 per person or $110 per couple if purchased afterwards. Included will be a buffet dinner, door prizes and live music. There also will be a silent auction and cash bar. The event is dressy casual.

Proceeds will benefit the Riverview Academy for Autism, a community center created by the Concerned Parents of Autistic Children to provide services and resources for families of children with autism. They share information and support each other in a quarterly meeting at the academy at 9631 Raiden Lane, Riverview.

Fashion Show Scheduled; Volunteers Needed

RUSKIN - The Mary and Martha House, a crisis shelter for women and children, will hold a fundraising luncheon and fashion show at noon Oct. 9 at Club Renaissance, 2121 S. Pebble Beach Blvd., Sun City Center.

Erin London's and Graff's new fall fashions will be modeled, as well as clothes and accessories from the Mary and Martha House Thrift Store.

The Mary and Martha House also is seeking volunteers for its thrift store and administrative offices, 1009 First St. S.W., Ruskin, and at other locations.

The store sells barely used, as well as new clothes for women, men and children, furniture and household items. It is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Square Dance Open House

The Sun City Center Swingers Square Dance Club will have a free open house from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Community Hall, 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd., for square dancers of every level of expertise.

Van Coble will call and teach the dances. Dress is casual.

Square dancing provides mental, as well as physical exercise. Membership in the club promotes friendships.

Two subsequent Tuesday night introductory dances also are free.

Epilepsy Services Offers Family Retreat

TAMPA - Epilepsy Services of West Central Florida invites families affected by epilepsy to a retreat weekend Nov. 14-16 at Camp Boggy Creek, 30500 Brantley Branch Road, Eustis.

"The weekend is designed to provide a therapeutic respite for the entire family while strengthening the physical, mental and social health of the children and family members," said Thomas Orth, executive director of Epilepsy Services of West Central Florida.

The camp is affiliated with Paul Newman's Association of Hole in the Wall Camps for children with serious medical conditions.

Food Safety Is Luncheon Topic

The Sun City Center branch of the American Association of University Women will meet at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 11 in the Florida Room of the Atrium Building, 955 North Course Lane.

The topic of the luncheon meeting will be food safety.

Lillian Stark, adjunct assistant professor in the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida and director of the Virology Department at the Tampa Branch Laboratory, will speak.

Weavers To Meet, Teach Beginners

The Sun City Center Weavers Club will offer an eight-week class for beginning weavers from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, starting Oct. 13 in the Sun City Center Weaving Studio, 968 Cherry Hills Drive.

The cost is $65 per person, which includes eight weeks' worth of materials and instruction.
