GIBSONTON - The East Bay High School baseball program and its supporters will soon trade their bats for golf clubs for an upcoming fundraiser.

On Nov. 15, the Summerfield Crossings Golf Club will host the third annual East Bay Baseball Golf Scramble.

"We're hosting districts this year, so the money will go toward updates for our facility, like refurbishing the warning track, finishing a fencing project we had to stop work on last year, and a few others," said William Colome, coach.
Colome is entering his second season as the Indians' baseball coach. The team plays in Class 6A, District 8, and finished with a 6-16 record last season. East Bay will begin its spring season Feb. 15, and the district tournament is scheduled to begin April 27.

Colome's goal for the tournament is to raise $12,000, and he hopes to have 100 sponsors and up to 45 foursomes. Four foursomes are signed up, and the tournament has secured five sponsors.

"We really want people to come out to the event because it's really to support East Bay High School, which has been a part of this community for a long time," Colome said.

Besides the golf tournament, an East Bay Alumni baseball game is scheduled for January. Proceeds from that event will also go toward facility updates.
Colome believes these upgrades will be beneficial to both the school and his players.

"The money would certainly be a blessing," Colome said. "We want to impress the other teams when they come in here to play, but I also feel like having a nicer facility will excite our players."
