Residents Have Choice Of Many Art Classes

SUN CITY CENTER - The Sun City Center Art Club will hold a varied palette of art classes this fall.

Except where noted, "classes are generally $10 a session with no prepayment, so someone can attend a class whenever they want and pay as they go," said Ed Laudano, publicity chairman.

•Beginning watercolor by Virginia Laudano, (813) 633-6042, began Oct. 13 and will continue from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. The $50 fee covers certain supplies. A maximum of 12 students may participate.

•Pastel painting will be taught by Cynthia Wortmann, (813) 634-1342, from 9:30 a.m. to noon Mondays.

Don Nathan, (813) 633-2619, will offer a plein air class at 9 a.m. Tuesdays. All sites will be accessible by golf cart.

•Oil painting will be taught by Art Pressman, (727) 422-1493, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Art Sarlin, (813) 642-8986, will teach watercolor painting from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 21.

Roberta Snyder, (813) 633-1410, will work with all media from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays.

Shirley Crist, (813) 633-8086, will describe how to create oil and acrylic painting from 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays, beginning Oct. 24.

•Beginning oil painting with Carol Wehrle, (813) 633-4516, will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. as of Friday.

Nancy Cooper, (813) 633-0084, and Jeanie Will, (813) 633-4241, will teach a mat-cutting class from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 6 and 20, and from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 10. Each teacher can work with five students.

•Painting on fabric will be offered by Virginia Laudano, (813) 633-6042, from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 and 24 and Dec. 1. The fee, which includes some materials, is $50.

•The Art Room will be available for club members' nonstructured use from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays.

Paper Drive For Shelter

RUSKIN - The Mary and Martha House is holding a paper drive.

Facial tissue, paper towels and toilet paper may be dropped off at the thrift store, 1009 First St. S.W., through Nov. 1.
Mary and Martha House is a crisis shelter that serves about 24 women and children a day. The organization hopes to collect 1,814,400 square feet of paper products, which should last about six months.

Sorority Members Celebrate October

Laureate Zeta Kappa members will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mary Burback's house for an Oktoberfest-themed meeting. The sorority also will hold a social, co-hosted by Bill and Shirley Turner and Bob and Mable Hill, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Turner home.

Spaghetti Leads The Menu

A homemade spaghetti dinner, with or without meatballs, accompanied by salad, Texas toast, dessert, beverage and entertainment, will be served at 5:30 p.m. Friday by the Keenagers of United Community Church, 1501 La Jolla Ave.

Tickets are $7.50 per person.

Estate Planning For New Floridians

Spencer Faircloth, retired vice president and trust officer of South Shore Community Bank, will teach seminars on estate planning to people who recently have moved to Florida.

The seminars will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays at South Shore Community Bank, 131 S. Pebble Beach Blvd.

On Tuesday, Faircloth will talk about trusts; on Oct. 28, about estate taxes and avoiding taxes.

A Community Garage Sale

RIVERVIEW - A community garage sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday or, in case of rain, on Oct. 25, at houses throughout the Summerfield subdivision.

Actors, Crew Needed For Madrigal Dinners

Auditions for Christmas Madrigal Dinners will be held at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. today at United Methodist Church of Sun City Center, 1210 W. Del Webb Blvd.

Fourteen adults, 10 teens or pre-teens, a tech crew and kitchen and dining crew are needed. Singers are preferred; no acting experience is required, and there is minimal memorization.

Rehearsals will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays beginning at the end of October and nightly during production week. Performances will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 18 and 19.

Club To Review Amendments On Ballot

The South Shore Democratic Club will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the West Room of the North Clubhouse, 1900 Clubhouse Drive.

Amendments on the Nov. 4 ballot will be discussed, and there will be a sign-up for volunteers.

Concert For Candidate Of Honorary Mayor

RUSKIN - Singer/songwriter Frank Garcia will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Big Draw Art Studio, 613 U.S. 41, as part of fundraising concert for Ruskin honorary mayor candidate Dolly Cummings.

Every dollar raised is a vote for Cummings. The admission fee is $5.
