RIVERVIEW - PlayMania, a local interactive center for children, will host a fundraiser Sept. 28 to benefit Sydney's School for Autism, the only school in the county catering to youngsters with the nation's fastest-growing developmental disorder.
The benefit takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. A minimum donation of $10 includes pizza, beverage and free play for each child. PlayMania will donate 10 percent of all purchases made during the event to the non-profit school.
On the grounds of St. Patrick Church in South Tampa, Sydney's School serves youngsters who have autism, which is diagnosed in one out of every 150 children born today.
School Director Kathy Swenson founded the school three years ago because she believed her daughter, Sydney, was not receiving the instruction she needed from the Hillsborough County School District. Children with autism often need one-on-one support and intensive treatment to fit their needs.
Sydney's School depends on support from the community.
PlayMania is at 10655 Big Bend Road in Riverview. For information on the event, call Anna Suor at (813) 215-6465.
