Published: April 1, 2009

GIBSONTON - Four students from Laura Iuzzolino's 4-H Photography Kids II class - Erica St. Johns, Sylver Lucas, Rebecca Mayo and Jade Hammond - won ribbons for 17 of the 20 photos they submitted in the Florida State Fair Youth Photography Competition.

St. Johns won first place for a photo of Lucas, which was shot through a playground sliding board tube. "It is really a great photo," said Iuzzolino.

"Each girl took amazing pictures," she said. "What a job they all did in the composition, subject matter, overall emotion and quality of each photograph entered."

The girls, who are between the ages of 14 and 16, will compete against other 4-H members in two contests in the Hillsborough County 4-H Day on Saturday at the Hillsborough County Extension Center in Seffner.

They also will enter a National 4-H contest by mailing in photos to be considered for inclusion in the 2011 4-H calendar.

The competition will be presented by Dream Builders Association of America Inc. to benefit United Cerebral Palsy, the Dream Factory and the Riverview High School chorus, which, according to Director Liz Stewart, is planning a trip to Carnegie Hall in November to perform Handel's "Messiah" with John Rutter.

Simon credits "pagan myths, Mayan cosmology, Woodstock" and "the acoustic blues of Eric Clapton and the finger-style guitar of Leo Kotke" as some of the influences on his music.

Concertgoers may pick up free tickets as early as one hour before the show.

Retired Owner Enjoys Memories

VALRICO - Chris Shaw of Lithia, who with her husband Scott owned Sweet Memories Antiques and Collectibles in Brandon in the 1980s, continued selling antiques at the shop until November. Her retirement was celebrated recently at a dinner party at Savannah Landings Clubhouse in Valrico.

Now Shaw is making new memories by spending time with family, but the old memories are sweet, too.

"I really miss the camaraderie of the shop," she said. "It was a very special group from the start. Everyone worked to help each other - that's the success secret of Sweet Memories."

Current owner Richard Bennett attended the going-away dinner, as did previous owners Christel and Curt Rogers and friends and fellow antiques dealers Maren Funderburk, Patty Webber, Barbara Smithwick, Sara High, Saundra Dunbar, Bobbie Manck, Betty Bryan, Raylene Larson, Jennie Burhans, Laura Hovan, Kay McMaster, Millie Verada, Sherry Holmberg, Soloage Cross and Jackie Patterson.

The shop's 20{+t}{+h} Annual Sidewalk Sale and Spring Market will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at 608 N. Parsons Ave. in Brandon, the home of Sweet Memories Antiques and Collectibles for 40 years.

Tents and beach umbrellas on the property will cover local vendors offering "a variety of goods, including fresh flowers, jewelry and more," said Bennett.

More than 12 antiques dealers will be on site.

For information, contact Bennett at (813) 685-3728, (813) 293-5693 or at bennett prop@aol.com.
