Thursday

Happy Birthday, President Lincoln

Enjoy a multimedia presentation about Abraham Lincoln and his successful fight to save the Union on the 200th anniversary of his birth. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the SouthShore Regional Library, 15816 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin.

Step Into The Wild Side

Love is in the air at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo on Valentine's Day weekend, Thursday through Saturday, with the popular Wild at Heart program for adults. This unique, three-hour experience reveals some of the animal kingdom's most fascinating facts with entertaining stories of animal romance, courtship and breeding behaviors. A champagne toast, progressive four-course dinner and up-close animal encounters are included in the eventful night.

Tours start at 5:30 and 6 p.m. each evening and are limited to two groups of 50 people per night. Advance reservations are required. Tickets are $55 for general admission, $50 for Zoo Pass holders. To register, call (813) 935-8552, ext. 235. Lowry Park Zoo is at 1101 W. Sligh Ave., Tampa.

Valentine's Extravaganza

Make your Valentine's Day something to remember at Ruskin VFW Post 6287. Beginning at 7 p.m., guests will enjoy music by You2Can Karaoke, dancing, special-guest appearances, hors d'oeuvres, audience participation fun and games, photo ops and more.

Sunday

Yesterday: A Beatles Tribute

Take a journey from 1964 to 1970 with the music of the Beatles, from their early years through the Sergeant Pepper era, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Sun City Center Community Hall, 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd. Four artists perform this tribute, which is open to the public.

Tickets are $13. A wine-and-cheese reception follows the show. For tickets, call (813) 642-2001.

An Afternoon With Rosa Rio

Spend the afternoon with 106-year-old Sun City Center sensation Rosa Rio at the Tampa Theatre as she tells tales of her storied career playing the mighty Wurlitzer organ beginning at 3 p.m. She will play music to accompany the classic Buster Keaton silent film "The Electric House" on the 1,400-pipe Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.

Rio then will move to the grand piano and play George Gershwin and Cole Porter classic songs with crooner Paul Wilborn.

Tickets are $11.50 for adults, $10.50 for students and $9.50 for seniors. The Tampa Theatre is at 711 Franklin St., Tampa.

Enjoy Classical Chamber Music

The Florida Pro Musica Baroque soloists - harpsichordist Larry Kent, violinist Judson Griffin and cellist Javier Caballero - will play virtuoso solos, duets and trios by Bach, Corelli, Handel and others in a free concert at 3 p.m. at the SouthShore Regional Library, 15816 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin.

The program also will feature members of The Dance Project, a professional company specializing in 18th-century dance, interpreting several delightful pieces in period costume. The trio of musicians will accompany their performance.

Plan Ahead

Celebrate Literacy

Eisenhower Middle School is the place to be from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 19 for Read to Achieve Literacy Night. There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers, great music, performances, activities, giveaways and a Scholastic Book Fair. Booths with information on how to improve reading skills and performances on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test will have experts ready to answer questions.
