New Director Takes Helm Of Riverview Area Chamber

RIVERVIEW - The former co-owner of a small company recently became the leader of a business organization of almost 400 members.

Tanya Doran, 38, assumed the role of executive director of the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 27, replacing Kitty Cunningham, who retired.

"I want to take the chamber to the next level," Doran said. "Kitty is an incredible woman. She did an awesome job of building a solid foundation for us to build on.

"I'm overwhelmed with how blessed I am to have been given this opportunity."

Born in Tallahassee, Doran moved to Riverview with her parents, Larry and Janet Chapman, when she was 2. She is the oldest of four children - her siblings include a sister, Tara Hewitt, 33, and a brother, Casey, 32. Casey's fraternal twin, Chad, died in an automobile accident at age 26.
Doran graduated in 1988 from East Bay High School, attended the University of South Florida for two years and then went to Bay Legal Academy to study court reporting. During college, she worked part-time as a receptionist for Medco before accepting a full-time position with benefits to pursue a 14-year career there.

Two years ago, Doran and her husband, Bill, whom she married 17 years ago, opened the Space Walk of Brandon branch and became active in the Brandon and Riverview chambers of commerce.

"We found great value in our chamber membership and took the time to build relationships," she said. "We supported the community, and in turn, it supported us."
Doran said the chamber has lots of potential, and she wants to build greater awareness about the chamber's services. She also plans to add a business expo to the chamber's annual events, which include a golf tournament March 7, a hog roast April 18, a new teacher breakfast in August and Trick or Treat Street on Oct. 24.
