RIVERVIEW - Some water customers in South Shore may notice reduced water pressure during the next few weeks.
A major pipeline is being moved as part of the U.S. 301 widening project.
The pipeline serves customers south of Little Bullfrog Creek - near Wimauma's West Lake Road and Bill Tucker Road - and east of Interstate 75. The work will affect residents of Sun City Center and Wimauma and may affect parts of Balm.
"We're going to be pumping more water from our Lithia water plant to help compensate," said Michelle Van Dyke, community relations coordinator for Hillsborough County Water Resource Services.
The line being moved will remain out of service until late March.
Although water service will continue to be provided via an existing 16-inch line, customers may experience a decrease in water pressure, particularly if they irrigate their lawns.
"Most people don't start irrigating their lawns until March, and that's when they might notice the slight decrease, but we don't really anticipate it becoming a problem for our customers," Van Dyke said.
The $110 million U.S. 301 project will widen the 6-mile segment between Gibsonton Drive and County Road 672 from a two-lane rural road to a six-lane divided highway with a 22-foot median.
The pipeline must be moved because it is in the path of pilings to be constructed for a new bridge over the creek.
Customers who experience a serious problem with their water pressure should call Water Resource Services at (813) 744-5600.
