Network Helps Students Seek Financial Aid
GIBSONTON - East Bay High School, 7710 Old Big Bend Road, will host College Goal Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the media center. Church Hosts Pancake Supper
RUSKIN - The Men of St. John the Divine and the Women's Auxiliary invite the public to a pancake supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 705 9th Street, S.E.
The supper will celebrate Shrove Tuesday, the day before the beginning of Lent - the period of 40 days during which Christians fast and give penance preceding Easter.
Shrove Tuesday also is called "Pancake Day" in the United Kingdom. Preparing pancakes that day was a way to use up the butter, milk and eggs that would be given up during Lent. "Shrove" is derived from the verb "to shrive," which means to confess sins.
Tickets are $4; $2 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children younger than 6.
To purchase tickets, call the church office at (813) 645-1521.
Ash Wednesday services will include the imposition of ashes and Holy Eucharist at 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the church.
