RUSKIN - If you love chili, then pocket $3 and head over to E.G. Simmons Park for the 13th annual Chili Cook-off and Flea Market Saturday.
Beginning at 8 a.m., 16 cooks will whip up three gallons of their favorite chili recipes and, three hours later, tempt you to vote for their entry as best of the lot.
Judging begins at noon. The winner will take home $300, second place wins $200 and third place nets $100 — and of course, all three get bragging rights. The best-decorated chili booth gets a trophy.
Friends of the County Parks is hosting the event. Proceeds will purchase equipment needed at the park.
Almost 70 vendors have signed up to sell their collectibles, books, antiques, tools, fishing equipment and other items at the flea market, which also starts at 8 a.m. Beverages and baked goods also will be for sale.
E.G. Simmons Park is at 2401 19th Ave., Ruskin.
Lois Kindle can be reached at (813) 865-1553.
