A Rose Is A Rose
Adults who enjoy working with roses or want to learn about them are invited to a free seminar on their planting, culture and pruning. Instructor Al Latina will discuss these subjects at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at the SouthShore Regional Library, 15618 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin.
Thursday
It's A Premier
Meet professional artists Judy Anderson and Virginia Laudano at a reception for the premier of the Artists' Exhibit at the SouthShore Regional Library. The reception is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the genealogy area of the library.
The John Crawford Art Education Studio's Advisory Council selected Anderson's work of framed painted porcelain and Laudano's work in oil egg tempera, watercolor, pastels and acrylics to be featured in the exhibit through Feb. 26. Pieces from the artists' collections are available for purchase.
The SouthShore Regional Library is at 15618 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin.
Saturday
Honoring The Fallen
The Vietnam Veterans of America Tampa Bay Chapter 787 will conduct a Field of Honor ceremony at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N., Tampa. The ceremony is conducted four times a year to honor those who have given their lives fighting the war on terror. Names of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who died during the last three months will be read, and a flag for each will be placed in the Field of Honor.
Under The Big Top
The International Independent Showmen's Club, 6915 Riverview Drive, Riverview, is the place to be Saturday for the club's annual charity circus. Visit the midway and see The Emperors Performing Goats, Grumpy and the Pork Chop Revue, elephants, clowns and more. Visit the midway. Show times are 1, 4 and 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $10 in advance, $12 day of the show. Children age 12 and younger enter free. Call (813) 677-3590.

Dance Latin-Style
Dance to Latin rhythms from 6-9 p.m. at the Gardenville Recreation Center, 6219 Symmes Road, Gibsonton. Beginners are invited to arrive early for a class and then dance with experienced dancers. Cost is $10 for singles, $15 for couples. For information, call (813) 671-3009.
Opera Celebrity Visits
Retired opera baritone Sherrill Milnes (pictured) will recap the highlights of his career when he visits the Freedom Plaza Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Known as the leading Verdi baritone of his time, Milnes has won many awards, including three Grammys. There will be coffee and a meet-and-greet afterward.

Sew The MacPhee Way
The Brandon EastBay Chapter of the American Sewing Guild will present Linda MacPhee - Go Crazy With Creativity from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1239 Del Webb Blvd. W., Sun City Center.
Taking time off from her PBS TV show, MacPhee comes to town to show some tricks of the trade and share inspiration, entertainment, laughter and ideas. Cost is $40 for guild members, $60 for nonmembers. The price includes lunch. For information and tickets, call (813) 671-4996.
