SUN CITY CENTER - For the sixth time in as many years, residents of Freedom Plaza and the surrounding area received free medical screenings and health-related information at the retirement community's health fair.
Hundreds turned out June 23 for the screenings and to learn about all the medical resources available nearby.
"The health fair is wonderful," said Freedom Plaza resident Pat Grimm, who stopped by for help from massage therapist Anthony Dennett. "I've been to two of the events since I've lived here, and every year it seems to get better.
"I was very pleased with the experience."
The event featured 45 vendors, including medical practices, hearing centers, support groups and health products and equipment. Eighteen of them provided free screenings that ranged from glucose and blood pressure checks to hearing and strength testing.
"We are rich in Sun City Center with quality medical professionals," said Connie Lesko, Freedom Plaza's business development coordinator. "We do this to increase awareness among our residents of what's available in our own backyard and neighboring areas. It's a service for them and for people living in the area."
